Published on 9 August 2023

Carl Lenaerts brings rich experience to his new role at Plopsa, where his vision and passion will make valuable contributions to the further growth of the theme parks group. Lenaerts had until now served as CEO at Standaard Boekhandel and previously in several managerial positions at Kinepolis, Club Brugge and in the banking sector.

Carl Lenaerts:

"I am honoured and excited to take on the role of CEO at Plopsa. Plopsa is a unique Belgian company whose mission is to let its visitors experience magical moments. I am looking forward to working with the talented Plopsa team and realising its ambitious plans for the future."

Hans Bourlon & Gert Verhulst:

"We are convinced that Carl Lenaerts is the right person to lead this new chapter of Plopsa. We would also like to thank Koen Clement and Koen Peeters who, as interim CEOs, succeeded in putting the company on a stable course in the short term. They will continue to succeed Plopsa from their role on the board of directors. It is now up to the new CEO to continue their work."

About Plopsa

Plopsa, the theme park division of Studio 100, currently has 8 parks in its portfolio. Plopsa parks combine the magic of Studio 100 characters and more with the fun of many top attractions in a unique, themed environment. Together, the parks welcome more than 3.5 million visitors per year. Most of the activities are located in Belgium with 2 outdoor parks; Plopsaland De Panne and Plopsa Coo, the indoor theme parks Plopsa Indoor Hasselt and Plopsa Station Antwerp and the water theme parks Plopsaqua De Panne and Plopsaqua Hannut-Landen. In addition to the theme parks and water parks, Plopsa also operates a Plopsa Shop in Wijnegem, Hotel Plopsa with 117 rooms, Plopsa Village with 24 theme cottages and a camping site and the Proximus Theatre in De Panne. The Plopsa Group also has an international presence. In 2010, for example, the group opened its first indoor park in the Netherlands, Plopsa Indoor Coevorden, and in Germany it acquired the Holiday Park theme park. In addition, Plopsa continues to invest year after year. The range of attractions in the existing theme parks will be further expanded in the coming years, as will the number of locations where Plopsa operates.
